The Beetles battled and clawed their way to the Final 8 State Tournament this weekend. After losing the opening game of Regional tournament 3-2 the Beetles faced an elimination game. Down 5-0 in the bottom of 8th inning with 2 outs and nobody on base, 4 outs away from the season being over the Beetles went to work! The scored 9 runs in the inning, including a Hunter Hanson home run, to fight off elimination and come back and win the game! They then had one last hurdle in the way and that was a tough Spokane team, this also another season ending elimination game. Jens Jensen pitched 7 strong innings and combined with Ryker Ford and Kyle Bohl to get the win to propel the Beetles to is second consecutive Final 8 Tournament!
The Juniors also had to battle their way to state this weekend as well. After cruising to a 7-1 win in the district opener, the Junior took on a very tough Peppers team and were beaten. They to faced an elimination game. The Richland Knights put up 9 runs in the 2nd inning to take a a commanding 9-0 lead. The Junior Beetles relief core of Shawn McCormick and Austin Krueger shutdown Richland's offense and the juniors never gave up scratching out a couple runs here and there to get to within 3. In the bottom of the 6th with two outs and the bases load Darin Wilkens laced a double down the left field line to tie the score at 10-10. In the top of the 7th Richland scored 2 runs to take a 12-10 lead. Once again the Juniors fought back to score 3 in the bottom of the 7th to win and to send them to state for the first time since 2004!
Once pairings and brackets for the State Tournament are available our site will be updated.
The Rookies concluded their season this weekend and it was probably one of the best seasons the Rookie program has had in a very long time. They swept Moses Lake in Moses Lake on Saturday and then got swept at home by the same team, in part by a very bad call by the umpire. They finished with at 21-23 record, which included a 2nd place finish at the West Valley tournament! I have to say I watched Rookies play their first game and part of their last game and the amount of the improvement these guys showed in nothing short of amazing! These guys went to war everyday and battled and fought for every win! At one point they were about 9 games under .500 and to finish with a record that they did is awesome! It's safe to say the future of our organization is very bright! Great job guys and coaches!
To all parents, players and former Beetles, be very proud of our program this year and be very proud to be a Beetle! Just know that we aren't done this year and both teams are going to make some noise at State! Go Beetles!!!!!
